About the role

The purpose of the role is to ensure professional maintenance services for the Pearl Residential and Retirement site, including general building and facility maintenance, light refurbishments, scheduled and reactive tasks, and emergency repairs. The team leader manages in-house and contracted maintenance, servicing records, reporting, and safety to meet Aged Care Standards. The role involves hands-on maintenance, administrative auditing, and providing a safe and comfortable environment for residents and staff. After-hours emergency service on a fortnightly roster is required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting high-quality maintenance services by providing direct support to the site RSM and Village Manager.
  • Training and supporting the Maintenance Officer.
  • Maintaining KPIs for reactive and preventative maintenance.
  • Performing general maintenance (painting, carpentry, plumbing) and undertaking site audits for accreditation.
  • Ensuring compliance with SCC Policies and Procedures and all legislative requirements (Fire Safety, Water Management, Safety, Security).
  • Participating in on-call responsibilities.
  • Working as an effective staff member, communicating positively, supporting new team members, and attending training.
  • Maintaining a safe work environment (WHS) by reporting hazards and using provided equipment.

About you

  • Essential: Current Driver's license.
  • Beneficial Experience: Previous building or trade knowledge, proven track record in similar roles, experience with legislative compliance and Aged Care standards, exposure to preventative and reactive maintenance schedules, understanding of Aged Care Standard 5, and experience in managing people and performance.
  • Skills: Strong customer service, effective communication, sound work ethic, team orientation, computer literacy (Microsoft Office), trade skills, ability to work autonomously, adherence to policies, ability to build internal relationships, respect for co-workers, commitment to continuous improvement, and striving for excellence.
  • Knowledge: General knowledge of gardening, landscaping, irrigation, building/facilities maintenance requirements (BCA/NCC/AUS/NZS Standards), and basic knowledge of Aged Care Standards applicable to the role.
  • Personal Attributes: Ability to fit SCC's work culture and values, build positive relationships with residents, work collaboratively, demonstrate integrity and resilience, commitment to person-centred customer service, commitment to working to the best ability, and a problem-solving approach.
  • Desirable but not Essential: Building Trade qualifications, project management skills, audit & quality experience, proven leadership skills, and a strong team ethos.
