About the role

As a Home Care Assistant, you will provide person-centred, safe, and effective support tailored to each client's unique needs, goals, and preferences. Your primary focus will be empowering clients to maintain their independence and self-determination, enabling them to thrive in the comfort of their own homes.

In addition to Home Care Assistant role, you will have the opportunity to work 1:1 flexible respite service available exclusively for clients attending any of Southern Cross Care’s Dementia Respite Cottages (Myrtle Cottage, Myrtle Bank, Pines Cottage, Netley or Willow Fern Cottage, Mount Barker).

In addition to transporting the client between their home and the Respite Cottage, this role offers a valuable opportunity to engage in meaningful 1:1 time with the client.

A motor vehicle allowance and travel time is payable for travel between clients as well as a full working tool kit, including a mobile phone.

About you

We are looking for people who will be the difference in the lives of our residents and clients. To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Qualifications: Certificate III in a relevant field (Individual Support - Ageing, Aged Care, or Home & Community Care).

• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated experience in a personal care role, with the confidence to work independently without direct supervision.

• Certifications: Current First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009) certificates.

• Transport: A current, unrestricted Australian driver’s licence (C class) and your own registered, fully insured vehicle (essential).

• Clinical Skills: Sound, best-practice personal care skills.

• Specialist Knowledge: A strong understanding of supporting clients living with dementia, including managing challenging behaviours.

• Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional time management, organisational skills, and the natural ability to build positive relationships with clients and their families.

• Practical Skills: Basic cooking abilities.

• A basic understanding of Home Care Packages (Highly Regarded).
