About the role

The Property Maintenance Officer is responsible for both remedial and preventative maintenance across the Southern Cross Care property portfolio. The position reports to the Asset & Maintenance Manager and aims to ensure a safe, comfortable environment for residents.

The role will also necessitate on-call duties as directed.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct annual preventative maintenance inspections and perform general building duties, including plumbing, carpentry, and painting.
  • Undertake capital and repair projects and liaise with external contractors as directed.
  • Participate in the after-hours on-call roster when required.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative standards, including fire safety, water management, and workplace health and safety (WHS) protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records, participate in quality measurement activities, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Foster a positive work environment, support new team members, and engage in professional development.

About you

  • Experience & Qualifications: Experience in building maintenance, handyman services, project scoping, and regulatory compliance is required. Trade qualifications are considered desirable.
  • Skills & Knowledge: Candidates need strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work autonomously, and knowledge of building maintenance standards (e.g., BCA/NCC). Basic knowledge of aged care and retirement living standards is also required.
